David Dimech is overall champion in Gozo Motocross Championship

The Gozo Motocross Championship came to an end on Sunday, as riders hit the track ready to meet the challenge for the last time this season.
A large crowd attended the finals held at Ta Xhajma Track and the spectators did not leave disappointed as riders put on a great display of exciting racing to gain the points and position in the Championship.
The GMA said that there was an emotional moment when David Dimech in Class A won the three heats, surpassing the 374 points that Steve Xuereb had achieved up to the semi-final.
Xuereb had to miss the final races due to an unfortunate incident earlier that week. So David Dimech, riding a 300cc Sherco, is the Champion in Class A and Overall Champion in the Yamaha Gozo Motocross Championship 2019 with 390 points.
Glenn Vella is Champion in Class B with 434 points, while Jorn Stellini is Champion in Class with 454 points. Stellini was also champion in 2015-16. Newcomer David Mercieca won Class D with 421 points.The GMA presented tokens to all rider members. The award “Most promising Rider 2019” was given to Isaac Bartolo. MXBanda CEO Maxim Nenad said that Bartolo has potential. Frank Xuereb presented the Frank Bruno Motocross Award to Steve Xuereb for his dedication, discipline and hard work towards the sport.
Frank Xuereb and VickyAnn Xuereb where both given tokens of appreciation from the riders themselves for their dedication and hard work towards Motocross in Gozo. Sean Michael Daly, chairman of Gozo Sports Board awarded trophies to the winners of the the day.
In Class A David Dimech came in first followed by Matthew Gauci. Robert Spiteri won first place and Glenn Vella came in second. In class C Daniel Portelli was first followed by Jorn Stellini . Godfrey Bigeni came in third.
Isaac Bartolo won class D. David Mercieca was second and Anthony Fenech third. Other riders of Class D were also awarded with Jurgen coming in first followed by Steve Cassar and Raymond caruana respectively.They were given trophies sponsored by Alex Debono Sports Experience Trophies & Awards.
The Gozo Motocross Association gave thanks to its main sponsor Yamaha GasanZammit Motors Ltd. without whom, it said, “this Championship would not be possible.”
The GMA also showed its appreciation for the support of Ravenol Oil & Lubricants by Galea General Services LTD, DBar Restaurant, JD cycles, Wenzu Mercieca at Mezzan Garage, J&R, High Revs Motorcycles Victoria, GozoCreations Signs & Graphics, Vince Grima at Grima Service Station and Grima Fuel Supplies, Alex Debono Sports Experience Trophies & Awards. O’Neal Malta presented vouchers to the champions. Thank you Joseph Cordina and Manuel Mizzi.
“Special thanks to Minister for Gozo Dr Justyne Caruana and the Ministry for Gozo, together with Gozo Sports Board. Also thanks to Alain Salvary who is always attentive to our photographic needs and the ERRC for being there for us on each occasion,” the GMA said.Frank Bruno President of Gozo Motocross Association, in a short address, promised to continue to work hard towards the progress of Motocross in Gozo.
As the Championship season comes to a close, the GMA announced that it has two more events coming up soon. The 4th edition of the Gozo Enduro Rally will take place this coming Saturday, the 11th of May at Xwejni, Gozo. Races will start at 11am.
The other event is the Gozo Moto Fest which will be held at the horse racing track, on the 2nd of June, starting from 11am onwards, and which promises to provide the best entertainment in Enduro and Motocross tracking as riders compete against each other in a series of flat racing.
The GMA said that this event will be particularly interesting because it will also incorporate Autocross racing. More information will be given later.
