On the occasion of the first apparition of Our Lady of Fatima, on the 13th of May 1917, the Bishop of Gozo Mgr Mario Grech, in an Ecumenical spirit, urged Christians to make their entrustment to Our Lady.
“I appeal to all Christians, even to the non-Catholic Christian communities present in Gozo, so that they may similarly solemnly entrust themselves not only as individuals, but also as families, groups, religious and parochial communities, schools, clubs, etc, to make this act of entrustment to Mary,” said the Bishop.
The Bishop was reiterating the call already made through a Pastoral Letter sent on Mother’s Day, the first one he has ever written for this occasion, precisely to emphasise the role of Our Lady as a mother to take care of her children, which is being celebrated in the Gozo Marian Year.
The Mass was held on Monday at the Salesian Sisters Convent in Victoria, on the occasion of the establishment of the Association of Marian Devotees (ADMA) in the Diocese of Gozo.
In his Homily, the Bishop referred to the teachings of St Louis-Marie Grignion de Montfort – “the consecration of ourselves to Jesus through Mary’s hands.”
The entrustment to the Blessed Virgin, on the 5th of June at Ta’ Pinu Sanctuary, is “an invitation for us to renew our baptismal promises,” said Bishop Grech.
For the occasion, along with the Bishop, the Mass was concelebrated by Fr. Alfred Sacco SDB, of the Association of Salesian Co-operators Association and the ADMA Gozo, as well as Fr George Borg, priest of the Salesian Sisters Gozo.
