Gozo Channel’s fourth ship will soon be arriving in Mgarr Harbour from Greece – the Nikolaos, a Ro-Ro/passenger ship.
Gozo Minister Dr Justyne Caruana, during a visit to the new ship, remarked, “about a year ago I mentioned that we need a fourth ship, this commitment has now been carried out, thereby increasing the efficiency of the Gozo Channel.”
The Minister explained that ship has been chartered for a definite period, until an international tender is eventually issued to lease a Gozo Channel vessel for a longer period of time.
Dr Caruana added that it will also “substantially reduce the inconvenience for anyone who uses the service on a regular basis. ” Three of the Gozo Channel vessels will be for passengers and vehicles, with the fourth used for cargo, meaning that the ferry schedule can also be changed to allow more frequent crossings.
