Summer on the Move Programme for Gozo official launch – Starts July

Following on from the success of the Sports on the Move Winter programme, the Ministry for Gozo and the Gozo Sports Board in collaboration with Sport Malta, is launching the fifth edition of Summer on the Move, which this year will take place between the 8th of July and the 6th of September.
Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana said Summer on the Move has grown steadily over the years, both in the number of participants as well as the choice of sports available.
Dr Caruana added that the Ministry is committed to further raise the level of Gozitan athletes and sports facilities, “evidence of this is the number of aid schemes and infrastructure projects being implemented, including new tennis courts at Kercem.”
She said that the Ministry for Gozo will once again be funding 50% of the cost. This means that those who wish to participate will pay only half the price.
“We believe in sport and the benefits that physical activity brings,” said Minister Caruana. “Children during the summer will have a lot of spare time, so it is important to be active through activities which are held in safe and suitable environments and supervised by professionals,” she said.
The Minister for Gozo concluded by saying that “these activities help to maintain a healthy society and improve the talents of our children for their future. At the same time, we are also improving the socialising skills of our children during the school holidays,” said Dr Caruana.
The CEO of the Gozo Sports Board said that for this year the number of sports being practised have been increased, with 19 disciplines to be taught by 21 teachers and qualified coaches, all dedicated to offering a quality service. The ages of participants can be between four and sixteen years.
The Gozo Sports Festival is currently underway until mid-June, with sports activities during the week and every weekend, organised by the Gozo Sports Board.
The Board said that this festival will bring to Gozo several amateur athletes in various sports. There are 17 discipline, including football, water polo, gymnastics, athletics, snooker, Enduro and horse racing. Winners will be not only receive trophies but also monetary prizes.
