Xewkija Local Council becomes part of Italian wine producers associationThe Xewkija Local Council has signed an agreement to become part of an Italian association representing the wine producers in Italy.

The agreement was signed in the presence of the Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana and Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture Clint Camilleri.

Xewkija will be the only foreign council in the association and it has been made possible through the cooperation between the Xewkija local council and the town of Castelvenere in the province of Benevento, Campania Region, which is twinned with Xewkija.

Apart from this unity, the local council will also be part of RECEVIN representatives of the European Union (citta Rete Europea del Vino).

Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana said that the Ministry is committed to promoting Gozo as a centre and destination of excellence, in particular niche areas such as rural and gastronomic culture where the Gozitan environment and food are unique – and not least Gozitan wine which also have a quality product that is recognised internationally.

Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture Clint Camilleri said that the aim of the Secretariat is to promote the quality local wines that our islands are able to offer.

Floriano Zambon, President of Assoccazjoni Citta del Vino, praised the work of Xewkija Local Council on this important day for everyone, “as both the Council, as well as our islands, will now be able to exchange information from Italian and European experts in respect of Malta wines.”
