On Wednesday evening, all Mayors and Deputy-Mayors elected in Gozo during the last election took the oath of office, during a ceremony held in Independence Square, Victoria.
Present for the occasion was the Minister for Gozo Dr Justyne Caruana, who said, “I congratulate the Mayors and Deputy Mayors of all localities in Gozo on the occasion of the oath of office. I look forward to all working together for the welfare of Gozo.”Speaking about the ceremony, Dr Samuel Azzopardi, President of the Gozo Region and the former Mayor of Victoria, said that, “this is a historic moment for Gozo as the moment they took the oath, as a consequence of the Local Government reform, and together with myself as President of the Gozo Region, they will become members of the first Regional Council of Gozo that succeeded the Regional Committee.”
He explained that this Council will be composed of representatives of all communities in the region “so truly representative of Gozo – another level of local government as recognised in the Constitution of Malta.”
