4th Gozo Channel ferry "improved substantially" sea connectiviy - GTAThe Gozo Tourism Association has said that from the feedback received from its members operating in the touristic sector, the fourth ferry “has improved substantially the sea connectivity between Malta and Gozo.”

The GTA, in a statement said that during the past weeks it has been following the impact of the introduction of the fourth ferry with the current Gozo Channel fleet.

“Gozo Channel with this additional ferry, is operating 74 trips daily between the Islands, 37 trips from Mgarr to Cirkewwa and 37 trips from Cirkewwa to Mgarr during the summer, the Association said.

It pointed out that, this frequency of crossings translates into an average of 1.54 trips per hour from both ends.

According to the GTA, “the improvement was noticeable at all times of the day, but especially during the weekends, as no significant queues at the marshalling areas, both in Mgarr and in Cirkewwa are being experienced.”

The GTA remarked that although the fourth ferry on board, “poses accessibility hitches, it is however evident that such an introduction was a must in the inter-island connectivity.”

“Undoubtedly, there was the political will to introduce the fourth ferry,” said the GTA, and thanked the Minister for Gozo for “spearheading and implementing this important measure as well as Gozo Channel for operating efficiently such an extensive ferry schedule.”

“The same can be stated for the helicopter service which procedures are presently underway for its re-introduction in the coming months,” it added.

The GTA concluded by expressing its satisfaction that these two important measures of the fourth ferry and the helicopter service, which were being proposed in the Association’s budget proposals for these last years, are finally being implemented.
