Illegal deckchairs and umbrellas seized from Mgarr ix-Xini and XwejniOn Friday, officials from the Malta Tourism Authority confiscated deckchairs and beach umbrellas from two bays in Gozo, namely Mgarr ix-Xini and Xwejni.

The MTA said that they were being offered by the owners to the public without the required permits in place. Adding that it would not tolerate these illegal actions on any public beaches across Malta and Gozo.

In a statement, Tourism Minister Konrad Mizzi, said that tourism is a very important sector for the country, and emphasised the need to maintain order and be strong on enforcement, particularly in tourist areas and on our public beaches.

“The enforcement today is a clear demonstration of how the Malta Tourism Authority will not accept any illegal action on our islands,” the Minister said.

“That is why in the coming period we will be increasing our efforts on enforcement ensuring that everyone operates in accordance with the law and with all the relevant permits,” he added.

Minister Mizzi concluded by saying that “the public beaches should be accessible to everyone, including tourists and locals.”

At last, a sign of enforcement of rules and regulations. Perhaps it’s the beginning of a whole new era for Gozo!
