11-year old Gozitan Liam Daly completed his swim between Cirkewwa and Mgarr ix-Xini in Gozo, on Tuesday morning, taking a little over 2 hours for the 7km, swimming into frontal force 3-4 NW winds.
Liam was given a huge welcome by friends and well-wishers on his arrival in the calm waters of the bay, including Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri. This was Liam’s fourth swim raising awareness on – Keeping the Sea Plastic Free [1]
The Minister said that, “courage, determination and commitment to preserving the environment are values that Liam transmits.”
“We have a lot to learn from Liam. Together we can contribute much more to protect the marine environment,” he said.
Liam wants to raise awareness about the harm plastic is causing to our seas from marine debris. Nature Trust Malta said that proceeds from this event will also partly go to the rehabilitation of Turtles at its Turtle rehab centre.
This young Gozitan is an active and determined Shamrock Star athlete and a Year 8 National Sports School student.
