A webinar focusing on the findings related to Healthy Spaces for Children in Towns and Villages in Gozo, has been held by the Gozo Regional Development Authority, in collaboration with the Centre for Resilience and Socio-Emotional Health – University of Malta.
Prof Carmel Cefai and his research team presented the findings of a study that investigated how Gozitan towns and villages may become more child friendly.
A regional analysis for children and adolescents found that when compared to some other regions in Malta:
* Children in Gozo are more likely to visit playing fields and football grounds more frequently;
* Children and adolescents in Gozo are more likely to agree that they have sufficient open play areas and that the places where they play are clean and cared for;
* Adolescents in Gozo visit green areas and play in public parks, football grounds, in their streets and on their pavements more frequently – are more likely to agree that adults listen to and respect young people, and that they have opportunities to participate in social activities organised in their home town.
During the webinar, there were intervention by Ms Suzanne Gili from the Office of the Commissioner for Children, Malta, and two presentations by Mr Joseph Cutajar, Director EcoGozo A Better Gozo and Mr Kevin Cauchi, Mayor of Ghajnsielem Local Council.
Mental health issues and awareness was also discussed by Ms. Pauline Camilleri, Senior Social Worker at Gozo General Hospital and President of the Mental Health Association Gozo.
