Unfixing the root: Tree-loss anxiety and politics in Malta, is the title of an upcoming online Zoom talk by Mark-Anthony Falzon, as part of the Works in Progress Seminar Series (WIPSS).
Increasingly, trees are a feature of Maltese landscapes and townscapes. And yet, there is a palpable “tree-loss anxiety” that permeates the public sphere, and that at times translates into tree activism.
The talk, which is on Wednesday, the 8th of February, explores this apparent contradiction in light of the symbolism and politics of trees.
Prof. Mark-Anthony Falzon is a social anthropologist and a resident academic in the Department of Sociology [1] in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Malta.
