Gozo SPCA Rescue and Rehoming Centre in Victoria have now reached their physical and legal limits for taking in animals and said that “although they are still open for visitors, we can not take in any more kittens or dogs for the foreseeable future.”
The Centre Manager stated that “any animals abandoned outside our centre cannot be taken in, so please contact Animal Welfare, the Police or the Government.”
28 puppies have been found abandoned in just three weeks. Of these 18 need round-the-clock bottle feeding and are not available for rehoming at this time.
There is of course another very sad side to this story, apart from the fact that these 18 puppies had just been abandoned to their fate, somewhere, there are now two mothers wondering around looking for their lost puppies. Both mothers will be full of milk. One had a litter of 7 and one a litter of 11……
The Centre said that it has kittens available for rehoming and several dogs who are waiting for loving homes, including Bruce who can be seen above. He is a 3-4 year old Tal Kacca, with the most lovable, kind and playful nature who loves cuddles and walks.
There are also dogs out on short-term fostering, this is done to try and create space in the Centre, but they are still needing homes.
So please, don’t shop, but adopt – Help Gozo SPCA [1] and consider rehoming one of the dogs or cats there waiting patiently for someone to notice them. All of them deserving a chance to be in a loving home. By doing this you will also be helping to create space for other abandoned or stray animals who are waiting to come in off the streets.
