President Dr George Vella, while addressing the graduates of the Queen Mary University of London, Malta Campus, stated that, “the medical profession is all about preserving life.”
The graduation ceremony took place at the Citadel in Gozo.
During the ceremony of this second cohort of MBBS students from the Queen Mary University of London, Malta Campus, President George Vella also stressed that medicine is one of the “noblest of professions.”
The President explained that, “The medical professional is about restoring health; teaching others not to fall ill and how to prolong our lives the most we can.”
Whilst congratulating all the graduates, twenty of which came from eleven different countries and two from Malta, the President said that, “This is not the end of the road. Scientific knowledge and more specifically medical knowledge is developing at exponential speed. You have embarked on a journey of lifelong study which hopefully will keep giving you more and more satisfaction, and hopefully always a bigger sense of fulfilment.”
The President noted that the “mix of nationalities among the graduates did not hinder them from settling down among the Gozitans and Maltese, while contributing further to the “ever-increasing number of non-Maltese people on our island.”
He concluded by auguring all the graduates resounding successes in their chosen future careers.
