20,000 students and educators start back in Church schools

20,000 students and educators start back in church schoolsChurch schools today opened their doors for a new school year. Around 17,000 students and 3,000 educators returned to one of the 55 Church schools at the kindergarten, primary, secondary and sixth year post-secondary levels.

Among these, around 2,000 students and 140 educators who will enter these schools for the first time.

In preparation for this year, the Secretariat for Christian Education organised two meetings between the Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Galea-Curmi, the chaplains of the schools, and the educators who are starting to give service in a Church school.

Bishop Galea-Curmi reiterated his appreciation for the hard work of the many lay and religious professionals who provide a quality service in Catholic education.

While he was addressing the chaplains, the Bishop stressed the importance that they themselves are making a walk of faith built on solid spirituality, this is because no one can give from what they do not have.

In the meeting with the new educators, the Bishop spoke about the need between what we say and the witness we give to students in Church schools.

In preparation for the start of a new school year, during the summer months the Church’s schools continued with maintenance and beautification work.

The work of the educators also continued during the summer, with some of them continuing their training abroad to stay updated on new teaching methods.

The Church said that its schools are committed to continuing to work during the coming months and “to welcome the call of Pope Francis in order to create a more fraternal society that builds friendly relations between people and that looks after our common home.”
