Amendments to DNO proposed by PA related to public utility services

Amendments to DNO proposed by PA related to public utility servicesThe Planning Authority (PA) is proposing amendments to the Development Notification Order (DNO) for public utility services.

It said that this is in order to “streamline processes related to these services.”

The Authority explained that while Class 5 of the DNO already regulates efforts related to critical infrastructural works such as the water distribution network, sewerage, as well as electricity and telecommunications works, the PA is proposing to include the construction of Electricity distribution centres, new substations and the installation of temporary equipment and associated structures required for emergency generation of electrical power.

This will expedite projects related to the upgrading and maintenance of the electricity distributing network, it said.

The PA said that so as not to hinder the timely provision of such critical infrastructure, through these proposed amendments, such works will be considered as permitted development and so will be exempt from the need for the submission of a full development planning application.

The proposed amendments to the DNO may be viewed from the Planning Authority’s by clicking here [1].

The Authority invites the public to submit any representations on the proposed amendments through email address: dno.amendments@pa.org.mt [2]

Submissions must be sent to the Authority by Tuesday, the 2nd of January 2024.
