Structural improvements made at Gozo Hospital CCUWork has been carried out over recent weeks on structural improvements and new systems for the CCU section of the Gozo General Hospital. The majority of work carried out was done by employees of the hospital and others within the Ministry for Gozo.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono, visited the improved department as the work entered it’s final stages. Made structural changes were made, new floor coating put down, along with improved systems for electricity and telecommunications, that will be of benefit to the patients who need to be in the CCU department. Improvements were also made to the water supply. Patient monitoring equipment has also been changed with new systems set up by each bed. There will also be internet access, telephone and television at each bed.

Minister Giovanna Debono explained how the Directorate of Customer Services within the Ministry for Gozo coordinates work improving the health service in Gozo. This means that while improving existing services, as in the case of the CCU department, there are also new projects to increase the medical services that are given in Gozo. Work has already started on a radiology department and extensive improvements are being made on the second operating theatre. These projects will be co-financed by European funds and the cost is expected to reach nearly €3,700,000. Under these projects the health services in Gozo will be improved considerably, with far less patients having to travel to Malta to receive the treatment required.

While this is good news how come the Gozo Hospital does not have a machine for Breast screening.

My relatives have got to go to Malta each time for this

Come on we are living in the 21st century….

I am an expatriate (from Holland) and yes, of course, I have the Certificate of Entitlement … the Dutch authorities charge my income (pension) considerably. I had the pleasure(??)of being admitted to Gozo hospital this summer three times. Years ago I had a major operation in St Luke’s … this year I had two big operations in Mater Dei … no complaint about these, no no, not at all.

But I’d like to compliment the staff of Gozo hospital. What they do with their restricted possibilities, with the large number of for a great deal (in my eyes at least) hypochondric ‘out patient clients’ is incredible. ‘Hat off’, gentlemen and ladies, doctors and nurses ! I won’t mention any names, but the people in the male ward know what/who I mean !

Grazzi hafna !
