National dementia strategy launched covering next 7 years

The Dementia Directorate within the Active Ageing and Community Care has launched the second National Dementia Strategy for the Maltese Islands 2024 – 2031, with the theme -Reaching New Heights, which will map out its work for the next 7 years.

During the launch, Minister for Health and Active Ageing Jo Etienne Abela, explained how an analysis was made of the targets implemented in the first strategy as well as research carried out on new practices.”

He said that “from this evaluation several areas of action were identified in the latest strategy in order to address what our country needs to reach new levels in this care sector. Through this strategy, we will continue to fulfil the vision of this government to continue improving the services we offer that lead to a better quality of life.”

It was explained that the main goal of the National Strategy for Dementia is to improve the quality of life of people with dementia, their caregivers, and their families aiming to take action directly on:

Awareness and Understanding of Dementia

Reducing the Risk

Timely Diagnosis

Living well with Dementia

Workforce Development

Dementia Management and Care

Research & Information System
