A course for the elderly in Gozo is once again being organised for the academic year 2009-2010. All those Gozitans who are 60 years and over, may apply to participate in this course. Around 35 to 40 people have taken part in this course each year, the course has now been running for 11 years. This year 43 applications were received.
Lessons will be held every Friday at the Elderly Day Care Centre at Ghajnsielem and once every four weeks at the University Gozo Centre. This course, will consist of two semesters, covering subjects on nutrition and food hygiene in the first semester.
This course is being coordinated by the Elderly and Special Needs Sections at the Department of Customer Services within the Ministry for Gozo. This section offers also home help, day centres and also the meals-on-wheels and the handyman services. These services offer elderly Gozitans to lead normal life within their community.
The Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono, attended the first session of this year, where Mass was celebrated by the archpriest of Qala, Mgr. Joseph Zammit.
