The Xewkija Local Council has been awarded funds from an LESA scheme which will be used to buy an electric van to be used as a transport service for the elderly and people with special needs.
The council said it successfully applied for the LESA ‘Community Projects 2024’ scheme and will benefit from €52,274.
The grant was presented to Xewkija Vice Mayor Paul Azzopardi by Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri, in the presence of Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Alison Zerafa Civelli and the CEO of LESA, Svetlick Flores.
It was explained that the LESA funds are the result of fines collected and after deducting costs, the balance is returned for the use of the communities through grant schemes.
