The Left think-tank organisation Zminijietna, said that MP Glenn Bedingfield’s statement that workers of the Cleaning and Maintenance Division are collecting around forty-five tons of illegal waste every day shows that law enforcement should be the way forward.
“If law enforcement is done properly, public money will be saved and fines used for the upkeep of the locality”, added Zminijietna.
It went on to say that ”a security camera system is a must to deter illegal dumping. Other measures are the introduction of green wardens. The Malta Ranger Units is doing a good job in the countryside against illegal dumping and vandalism.”
Zminijietna concluded by acknowledging the good results achieved in the recycling sector. ”Data shows that as of 2012 the amount of waste recycled almost tripled.”
