ERA continues to monitor ongoing cleaning work at Hondoq Bay

The Environment and Resources Authority said that it is continuing to follow up the ongoing cleaning work at Hondoq beach by the Federation of Fish Farms.

Following an inspection of the bay [1] earlier this week, ERA officials had provided instructions to the Federation of Fish Farmers as to how Hondoq ir-Rummien needs to be cleaned from residues of slime which had been affecting the sea and sand [2].

The ERA said that “the work has to be carried out by hand and therefore, it takes time.”

“This effort aims to remove or shift any oil trapped in the sand. During/after this operation, FMAP personnel will be on-site to collect any residues or materials that may be released into the sea,” the ERA said.

It explained that this type of manual intervention limits the damage that can be done to the natural environment.
