The Victim Support Agency, which opened its doors three years ago, has helped 9,000 people. Help that includes guidance, emotional support and legal aid to victims of crime.
This was announced by Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri during an informal discussion with a number of people who used the Victim Support Agency.
Among the people receiving support from the Victim Support Agency are victims of domestic violence, some of whom were present at this discussion.
It was explained that once a report is made to the Police, the agency makes contact with the person to start the necessary help and as soon as the victim accepts, the professionals design a therapy programme including confidential meetings with councillors.
Therapeutic groups made up of professionals go deeper into the emotional depth of the experience that the victims have endured, professionals even accompany them for support to testify in Court.
