Malta is gearing up for its “biggest-ever” Malta Meat Free Week from 28 October to 3 November, organised by VeggyMalta.
The organisers said that this year’s campaign is set to be the most impactful to date, with the support of a host of influencers, personalities, and experts encouraging the nation to embrace the benefits of a plant-based diet for a week.
Among the local personalities championing the cause are Valentina Rossi, Trudy Kerr, Tamara Webb, Madeline Baldacchino, Errol Sammut, Althea Galea, Alison Bezzina, Moira Delia, Frank Zammit, Dylon Brignano, Jenko and Maxine Formosa Gruppetta, alongside many others from the environmental and animal world who are lending their voices to this important challenge.
VeggyMalta said that these advocates inspire Maltese people to plunge into a meat-free lifestyle for just one week through social media campaigns, TV features, and online content. Dr. Antonella Grima (Nutritionist) will also be on hand with insightful TV appearances and social media clips, breaking down the health advantages of a plant-based diet and how reducing meat consumption can positively impact both body and mind.
In the lead-up to the week, the organisers have partnered with Healthylicious by Stefania Calleja to offer exclusive cooking lessons to show participants how easy and delicious plant-based meals can be. These sessions are the perfect way to prepare for the challenge and discover exciting recipes that make going meat-free a breeze!
In addition to cooking lessons, supermarkets and restaurants are joining the movement. Participating supermarkets will feature special discounts on plant-based products, while various restaurants across Malta will offer special meat-free menus during the week, giving participants even more options to enjoy.
Malta Meat Free Week and VeggyMalta Founder Darryl Grima said, “this year’s challenge comes with bigger and better prizes, starting with the grand prize of a weekend break for two at the stunning Ramla Bay Resort.”
He added that “this year’s campaign has its own theme song, designed to inspire and energise participants throughout the week. The lyrics of the song express the message of Malta Meat Free Week [1].
The Organisers said that going meat-free for just one week can have a huge impact on:
1. “The Environment: Reducing meat consumption helps lower your carbon footprint, conserve water, and minimise deforestation. Every meal without meat contributes to a healthier planet.
2. Your Health: A plant-based diet is linked to lower cholesterol, improved heart health, and reduced risk of chronic diseases like diabetes. It’s a great way to feel lighter and more energised.
3. Animal Welfare: By choosing plant-based meals, you’re helping reduce the demand for animal products, contributing to a more compassionate world for animals.
Join the thousands of Maltese residents taking the challenge this year and make a difference for yourself, the planet, and animals. Together, we can create lasting change – one meal at a time.”

As always I will certainly do the Meat free week. In fact it is very easy for me because when the Meat Free Week began I not only stopped for a week, but I bought less meat than I used to buy!
Each year I cut down on the amount of meat I normally eat and by doing so, I aim to stop eating meat all together.
