The Malta Ranger unit is looking for individuals in Malta and Gozo who have the facilities to take in and care for injured pigeons and domestic ducks.
The MRU said that it is quite often tagged in posts and called about injured pigeons and domestic ducks that have been found.
“Domestic ducks and pigeons are many times not cared for by any entity due to their low protection status and it’s hard to find foster homes. This leads to these animals many times being left injured without any care,” the NGO said.
The MRU added that its main scope is to monitor for environmental crime, “however we have extended our remit to assist whenever we can in regards to domestic animals in the natural environment . Our Rangers who are out on patrol 24/7 have the possibility to rescue and retrieve such animals, but we have very limited resources to keep and care for them.”
The Malta Ranger Unit said it is therefore looking for individuals who have the premises and knowledge to take such animals in when found injured. “We would love for you to get in touch with us, so that when we get that call we would be able to assist.”
