Police arrest 45 people for illegally living or working in Malta

45 people were found living in the country irregularly during inspections carried out by authorities in Malta on Saturday morning.

Police said that they were assisted by the Detention Services Agency in conducting coordinated inspections in the areas of Qormi and Marsa. During this operation 20 people were arrested, who are from Nigeria, Ghana, Mali, Syria, The Gambia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Togo.

This followed another operation in St Julian’s and Paceville where 25 other people from Syria, Nigeria, Ghana, Turkey, and India were arrested after they were found illegally living or working in the country.

Police said that they were taken to a detention centre until the completion of their return process.
