Dar Guzeppa Debono: Services expanded and infrastructure improvements

With new infrastructure improvements, a programme designed to engage young people, along with increased support for volunteers, Dar Guzeppa Debono in G?ajnsielem, Gozo, is expanding its services to provide more help to the community.

This project is being carried out through funds allocated by the Voluntary Organisations Project Scheme (VOPS) administered by the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector (MCVS).

This was announced by Minister for Inclusion and Volunteering Julia Farrugia, in the presence of MCVS CEO Mauro Pace Parascandolo during a visit they made to Dar Guzeppa Debono.

It was explained that with this project, it will now be able to allow for both respite services and community activities at the facility at the same time. This ensures greater privacy, dignity and efficiency in services. The project also includes a modern kitchen, new equipment for youth initiatives, and additional resources to support volunteers and the administrative team.

A special programme was also launched at the home, supporting young professionals in the field of health and social services. This initiative offered debriefing sessions led by professionals, tools to manage stress, and training to develop the skills needed for their careers.

The Minister said that by investing in youth involvement and training for holistic care, Dar Guzeppa Debono is ensuring a sustainable future for community service.

Minister Julia Farrugia said, “this Government continues to demonstrate its commitment to a more inclusive and sustainable society. The investment in Dar Guzeppa Debono not only strengthens services for the community, but also shows concrete recognition of the invaluable work of volunteers.”

The Director and Founder of Dar Guzeppa Debono, Maria Attard, said that, “through this providential project we are seeing a dream come true. The entire home is equipped in such a way that it can offer a service addressed according to the signs of the times, where what the house was founded for can happen. That is to say, it offers shelter and professional help to young people in relationships, promotes the value of life from conception, and offers a healthy environment to those who wish to make use of the house for their ongoing formation. The home will now also be managed by a new board, all professional volunteers.”

The CEO of MCVS, Mauro Pace Parascandolo, reminded that all the Council’s funds are also available to Gozitans, and it is a pleasure to see a Gozitan organisation like Dar Guzeppa Debono continue to strengthen its services and tools to be more present in the community.
