This year’s Gaulitana: A Festival of Music continues with a captivating Easter Monday concert featuring The Kastell Trio, led by Pierre Louis Attard, in – Triptych.
Taking place at the picturesque St Anthony of Padova Church in Ghajnsielem, this chamber music performance brings the Easter celebrations to a graceful close.
The evening presents a refined programme of works composed for two violins and cello, highlighting the expressive and intimate qualities of the string trio ensemble. Among the featured works is Antonio Vivaldi’s beloved Trio Sonata in D minor, RV 63 ‘La Follia,’ a virtuosic and emotionally charged piece based on one of the Baroque era’s most iconic themes.
Among other pieces will be Joseph Haydn’s delightful Divertimento in C major, Hob. IV:1 ‘London Trio No. 1,’ a charming and elegant composition that reflects Haydn’s mastery of form and melodic invention.
Adding a modern touch, the concert features Kowalewski’s String Trio in C major, a contemporary work that blends traditional idiom with fresh harmonic colours, as well as Paul De Wailly’s little-known yet graceful 6 Pieces for Two Violins and Cello, a gem of the late Romantic repertoire, alongside other carefully selected works.
This special concert is on Easter Monday, the 21st of April, starting at 7.30pm. Set against the serene backdrop of one of Gozo’s most scenic churches, this concert promises a memorable musical evening filled with elegance and artistry.
