First stage of Marsalforn Road bypass now open to the public

As from today, Triq Patri Giacintu Camenzuli, which will be part of the Marsalforn Road bypass, will be opened to the public following the work carried out over the past few weeks.

Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri said that “this major infrastructural project in Gozo will ensure that access to and from the popular Marsalforn beach will not only improve, but will also reduce the volume of traffic from the heart of Victoria.

He added that, “over the past two days, more than 3,000 square metres of tarmac was laid at this site so that, from today, anyone going to Marsalforn can start using this road.”

The Minister explained that in addition to the tarmac work, the road was rebuilt with the base strengthened and all services were rerouted, including a culvert for services. A system of rainwater was built so that rainwater is collected and eventually transferred to the Capuchins Valley which is surrounded by agricultural land.

“This project is being carried out against a backdrop of ensuring that the road environment, associated with this part of the island, remains as intact as possible and follows several discussions held with the entities and stakeholders, including environmental organisations,” he said.

The Minister concluded by saying that work on this project will continue and intensify in the coming days.
