The Nationalist Party Electoral Commission has announced that Alex Borg and Adrian Delia – the two candidates who have expressed their interest in the PN Leadership role – have satisfied the verification criteria for election.
Earlier today, the Nationalist Party’s Electoral, Records and Data Commission received the Audit Report from the PN Candidates Commission that also includes the Motivated Declaration following the required verifications of the prospective candidates for the election of a new PN Leader, in accordance with the provisions of the PN Statute.
In a statement, Mario Callus Chairperson, PN Electoral, Records and Data Commission, said that these documents, copies of which have also been passed on to the PN Administrative Council as stipulated by the PN Statute, were presented following the completion by the PN Candidates Commission of the exercise to establish the eligibility and proven diligence (due diligence) of the two prospective candidates.
With the verification report now complete, the Electoral Commission said it will be accepting nominations between Thursday, the 14th of August at 12pm and Tuesday, the 19th August at 12pm. During this period, only the two prospective candidates who have been positively verified and passed the due diligence process may submit their nominations.
Once nominations close and the Electoral Commission would have received the two nominations from the prospective candidates, the Commission will organise the election for the Leader of the PN. Voting will take place on Saturday, the 6th of September, among PN members holding a valid membership card, during a specially convened General Convention.
In line with the PN Statute, the Electoral Commission also announced that, in addition to voting on the day itself, early voting sessions will be organised on Wednesday, the 27th and Saturday, the 30th of August, for members who, for any reason, are unable to vote on the official election day.
