The Mayor of Victoria Brian Azzopardi said that he warmly welcomes the speech recently delivered in Parliament by Minister for Gozo and Planning, Clint Camilleri, in which he announced that the building currently housing the Court within the Citadel will be transferred to the Victoria 31 Foundation, so that it may lead the process related to the European Capital of Culture bid.
It was announced earlier this month [1] that Victoria had been successfully pre-selected by an independent panel of experts appointed by the European Union to continue Malta’s journey toward the European Capital of Culture 2031.
The final decision as to the winner will be decided in September 2026.
The Mayor concluded by saying that “this initiative represents a strong commitment by the Central Government towards our city’s application, and it will undoubtedly be of benefit to the residents of Rabat and all Gozitans.”
