Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri attended the launch of four artistic projects to be installed in public places around Gozo. This follows a call for public art from Gozitan artists which has now reached the installation phase.
The Minister stated that these are “pieces of art made by prominent Gozitan artists that will be enriching, even continuing the cultural movement that is here on the island of Gozo even in light of Victoria 2031, the European Capital of Culture, where Gozo is also expected to play a central role.”
Camilleri said that the installations of art works will be done over the coming months, all of which have their own interpretation to the cultural landscape
The selected works of the artists are:
Encounter – Artist Christopher Saliba
Wie?ed – Artist Austin Camilleri
Fish Can Fly – Artist Vince Caruana
Ancestors – Artist Mario Agius
The Ministry said that this initiative means an investment not only in art, but also in the character, identity and quality of public spaces around Gozo. ”The scheme was born with a clear objective: to continue to increase public art on the island and create a concrete opportunity for Gozitan artists to have their creativity take shape in artistic works in public space.”
Minister Clint Camilleri concluded by thanking the artists and all those who contributed to making these four projects possible.
