On Saturday a fantastic game of cricket was played between the Winter League Champions Melita Betfair C.C and a combined team of the other two teams.
The Combined team batted first. John Grima and Ronnie Sacco opened the batting. Grima was first to go being bowled for two runs. Sacco had the same fate but had made four runs. Nadeem Butt and Deek Ali were now at the crease and began to settle down and make runs for their team. Butt was next to go being stumped for fifteen runs. Robert Krishna was bowled for eight runs, Sarfras Ali was also bowled, for three runs, Mike Caruana made six runs before being caught and bowled and Adam Krishna was run out for three runs. Kevin Krishna remained unbeaten on one run. Derek Ali also remained not out and plenty one of the best innings of his life scoring exactly 100. It is his first century and it was also the first century scored this year. He hit two sixes and ten fours along the way. For Melita Nowell Khosla and Gordon Hewitt took two wickets each, while Dave Borg and Anthony Roberts took a wicket each. The combined team totalled 166 runs from their thirty five overs.
For Melita Nowell Khosla and Joy Ghoseroy opened the batting. They put on a fifty two run partnership before both were out within three balls. Khosla made thirty two runs including five fours while Ghoseroy made fourteen runs. Anthony Roberts played a wonderful innings of thirty nine runs before being bowled. Richard Rogers and John Rusher both made ducks and Dave Borg nine runs. Will Nichols (eleven runs) and Robert Scerri (fourteen runs) brought their team very close to victory. The Melita team needed five runs of twelve balls with only one wicket in hand. Anthony Slater played a wonderful straight drive slightly uppish and was caught by the bowler which gave the combined team victory. Nadeem Butt, Ronnie Sacco and Adam Krishna all took teo wickets while Kevin Krishna, Mike Caruana and Sarfraz Ali took a wicket each.
Next Saturday has the local team playing against the first touring team Westfields Saints C.C from the U.K. Two twenty over games will be played. The first at 10:00am and the second at 1:00pm.The nursry/academy will be from 9:00 till 10:30am.
