During a consultation meeting with stakeholders and representatives of organisations with stakes in the Cittadella, the first draft masterplan document of the Cittadella was presented. This took place after a full year of study and analysis by several experts in various fields working on the lines given in the tender, as well as the areas that emerged during consultation meetings both at collective and individual level.
During this meeting, the stakeholders were presented with details on the actions it proposes in the masterplan and to finally, within a few weeks, conclude work on the project and then to present the final report.
The project’s masterplan was co-financed by the Financial Mechanisms with the European Economic Area countries of Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein (EEA Financial Mechanisms) which has contributed to its financing. This was only possible as a result of the accession of Malta to the European Union.
At the end of the meeting, after several interventions by those present, the Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono, stressed that the proposals that were submitted, would, when completed, give new life to the appearance of the Cittadella. She added that when this plan is finalised, which will be within the next few weeks, the Ministry for Gozo will have completed a holistic plan to address the needs, problems and the potential of this historical site, which is the most important area in Gozo and also the Ministry for Gozo will encourage more funds for its implementation. Although, at this stage the plan is suggesting a number of proposals, these must be studied carefully before implementation.
Minister Debono also referred to a project that is co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund, which will be used to consolidate and restore the fortifications of the Cittadellal with funding of around €7 million.

” Although, at this stage the plan is suggesting a number of proposals, these must be studied carefully before implementation.”
What proposals? Are they all, at this stage, secret?
