Minister for Health and Active Ageing Jo Etienne Abela inaugurated a new Bone Density machine at the Gozo General Hospital.
It was explained how a bone density scan using this machine measures the mineral content in the bones. This scan provides information on a decrease in bone mass and helps in assessing the treatment for the condition of osteoporosis. This makes the bones more fragile with a greater risk of fractures.
The Minister said that the aim of this investment is to address the ever-growing need for bone scans, where it is estimated that around 1,500 scans will be performed per year. ”This investment will lead to more efficient healthcare services.”
Minister Jo Etienne Abela explained how this new service, which will be provided through the new machine, will be complementing a number of other services provided at the Gozo Hospital for Gozitan patients.
Dr Abela said that how through this investment ”we are not only preventing a person from being seriously injured, but we are also investing in the well-being of the individual and avoiding serious interventions and disability.”
Today we are seeing another investment in the series of investments being made at the Gozo General Hospital. We are committed to continuing with our vision of continuing to offer the highest level of preventive care to Gozitans in Gozo itself,” concluded Minister Abela.
