Did you know that Malta and Corsica share an unexpected story? This will be explored in an upcoming Diploma in Maltese History in Context of the University of Malta
The Department of History said that throughout the time when Malta was ruled by the Knights of St John, there was a recurring ”Corsican dream.” Some grand masters contemplated swapping Malta for Corsica. These included Jean de Valette in 1567, Nicolas Cotoner in 1667 and Emanuel Pinto de Fonseca in the 1760s.
”Had the dream come true – in some form or shape – the destiny of Napoleon Bonaparte and so much of Europe could have been quite different. A tantalising what if indeed,” said the Department.
There is so much more to History than you might expect. ”Are you interested in learning more? Then this may well be what you were looking for: the Diploma in Maltese History in Context.” the Department of History said.
This is a part-time evening course spread over two years. There will be a new intake of students in October 2026.
