The Leone Band A.D.1863 of Victoria, announces its participation in three events related to the Holy Week celebrations.
This year, the Leone Band will accompany the Good Friday Procession, which issues from the Gozo Cathedral Church, up within the Citadel, on Palm Sunday, the 28th of March 2010. It will commence at 6.30pm. On this occasion, the Leone Band shall play funerary marches issued last year (2009) which can be found on the album Pro Nobis, for sale from the band club. A new set of funerary marches is, as usual, scheduled for next year.
Next comes the concert of Sacred Music by the Leone Band at the Cathedral Church on Tuesday, the 30th of March 2010, starting at 8pm. It will also include sung sacred motets by the Chorus Ecclesiae Cathedralis (choir master Colin Attard) and the Cathedral Youth Choir (choir master Matthew Sultana). The Leone Band will be performing an array of sacred music related to Holy Week, including very interesting local works. The concert comes to an end with the rendition of the ode to the cross – the funerary hymn La Croce composed in 1911. Entrance to the concert is free.
On Maundy Thursday, the Aurora Youth Movement, within the Leone Philharmonic Society, shall team up with the youths’ section of the Cathedral parish to organise the Seven Sepulchre visits around Gozo. Organised transport departs from Savina Square at 9pm.
Weather permitting, Easter Sunday is a festive day which the Leone Band celebrates with a morning march during which, it accompanies the statue of the Resurrected Christ. It issues from the Gozo Cathedral at 10.30am and is paraded around Savina Square and Independence Square, accompanied by festive marches.
