The Malta Chamber of Geologists said that Saturday’s collapse of a natural arch in Comino, which tragically claimed the life of a tourist, ”serves as a stark and devastating reminder of Malta’s ongoing unpreparedness for geological hazards.”
The Chamber warned that ”this heartbreaking incident underscores a systemic failure to manage our islands’ geological processes and features.”
The Malta Chamber of Geologists said that for years, it has consistently appealed to the government to establish a National Geological Service.
”Unfortunately, our expert advice, warnings, and structured proposals continue to be ignored by the current administration,” the Chamber said.
The Malta Chamber of Geologists concluded by asking ”how many more deaths are required before the administration realises that Malta remains the only country in Europe without a national Geological Service?”
