National Statistics Office data today has shown that in May the seasonally adjusted monthly unemployment rate stood at 3.5%, remaining at the same level as the previous month.
The number of unemployed persons was 12,010, marginally lower than the previous month, 12,015, and an increase of 26.9% on the same month in 2025.
The NSO noted that the 25 to 74 age group was once again the major contributor to the overall level of unemployment totalling 9,321 or 77.6%. The figure for unemployed youths amounted 2,689 or 22.4%.
The unemployment rate for both males and females stood at 3.5%, the rate for males remained unchanged compared to the previous month. The rate for females increased by of 0.1 percentage points compared to the previous month.
The unemployment rate for persons aged 15 to 24 years (youth unemployment rate) reached 8.8%. The rate for those aged between 25 and 74 years stood at 2.9%.
