Din L-Art Helwa – Ghawdex is urging the public to object to plans for a proposed building in designated “Outside Development Zone” in Nadur.
The organisation asked, ”why has as the Planning Authority accepted this application in the first place? An ugly garage miraculously expands into a fully fledged house in a green area, commanding sweeping views over the Ramla Valley below.”
The applicant, Ronnie Camilleri, a cousin of Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri, has now put in a new application through his architect Alex Bigeni – PA/05649/26 [1] – ”for a full dwelling, entirely on ODZ, overlooking the beautiful landscape of Ramla.
”When will the meaning of outside finally be understood? Outside Development Zone- beyond the boundaries of an area officially designated for development,” stated DLH Ghawdex.
The application reads that it is to construct a residential dwelling and carry out alterations to garage approved in PA/05478/23 on Triq ta’ Hida, Nadur, and to also construct rubble wall.
DLH Ghawdex said that any objection should say, ”ODZ means outside the developing zone so the PA cannot give permission for something so blatantly illegal! No excuses! The developers with the PA’s blessing cannot keep on destroying Gozo and its green areas.”
At the beginning of the month [2], Gozitan activist Luke Said had also highlighted the application, stating that ”15,017 new dwellings had been approved since 2012, and we’re still eating into our countryside. Gozo needs proper infrastructure. Gozo needs proper planning. ODZ means ODZ”
