Prime Minister Robert Abela, accompanied by Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri, continued the direct dialogue with the Gozitan community during a visit to Gozo, where he met with representatives of the Gozo University Group (GUG) and visited the Gozitan enterprise Ramla Valley Olive Grove.
During a meeting with members of the GUG executive, Dr Abela had the opportunity to hear directly from the young people about the realities they face, their experiences as students, and their aspirations for the future.
The Prime Minister reiterated the Government’s commitment to advancing initiatives that not only assist young people but, above all, give them a voice, enabling them to participate actively in our communities and in the decisions that affect them.
Discussions also covered a number of effective measures to further improve connectivity between the two islands. He stated that the Government’s vision for Gozo remains one of creating more quality opportunities – particularly for young people – enabling them to advance their careers, fulfil their aspirations, and choose to build their futures right here in Gozo.
While in Gozo, Prime Minister Robert Abela also visited the Ramla Valley Olive Grove, a family-run agricultural business situated in the fertile Ramla l-Hamra valley. This family business has been in operation for seven generations.
During the visit, the Prime Minister was shown around the olive groves, where the olive oil production process was explained – from the harvesting of the olives to the final product. It was explained how the enterprise employs traditional methods and organic practices.
The company is particularly renowned for its Extra Virgin Olive Oil, which has garnered various international awards and accolades. In addition to olive oil, the business produces flavoured oils, honey, jams, olives, capers, tomato paste, sun-dried tomatoes, and seasonal fruit. These are produced using crops grown by the family itself, thereby ensuring quality control throughout the entire process.
The Prime Minister commended the work of such businesses, which blend tradition with innovation to create a high-quality Gozitan product capable of competing and gaining recognition on an international level.
He maintained that agriculture, local produce, and family businesses remain a vital part of Gozo’s economic and social identity, and that the Government will continue to support initiatives that create added value, enhance quality, and open up new opportunities for Gozitan producers.
