On Saturday a forty over game was played and Ampthill after winning the toss decided to bat first. Paul Warwick and Dan Nichols opened the batting. They were cruising along with forty four runs on the board when Nowell Khosla bowled Nicholls who had made thirty two runs. Warwick was next to go being run out for twenty six runs. Matt Wilkinson made twenty four runs, Nigel Lewin and Chris Key both made twelve runs. After such a promising start Ampthill were bowled out for 154 runs with only Chris Degnan scoring sixteen runs towards the end of the innings. Credit must also go to the Marsa bowlers who persevered while the going was tough. Andy Lenard,Nowel Khosla and Justin Brooke were the main wicket takers with two each.
Ampthill totalled 154 runs. In reply the Marsa batsmen managed to make the runs in the thirty eighth over. Nowell Khosla opened the batting and made twenty two runs. Andy Naudi made the first fifty against touring sides scoring fifty four runs including five fours. Javed Shah scored twenty two runs and C.Ruddick seventeen runs not out. For the visitors Dan Nicholls was the main wicket taker with two. Marsa go one up in the series.
On Sunday two twenty over games were played.
The first game the local side batted first and only managed 98 runs from their allotted overs. Ronnie Sacco top scored with thirty six runs, Andy Lenard made twenty runs, Andy Naudi thirteen runs and Joy GhoseRoy ten runs. Ed Sharpe was the main wicket taker for Ampthill with two. In an exciting finish the visitors needed six runs to win of the last over. Dan Nicholls stood tall for his team and made them of the first two balls, first ball went for two runs and the second went to the boundary for four runs. Nicholls scored fourteen runs not out. Richard Haxle had scored twenty six runs and South seventeen runs. For Marsa the main wicket taker was Gordon Hewitt who took three wickets and Martin Llewlyn took two. Ampthill square the series.
In the second game Ampthill batted first and totalled 104 runs from their allotted overs. Chris Degnan scored twelve runs, Andy Passman thirteen runs, Dan Nicholls twenty seven runs and Matt Wilkonson thirty two runs not out. For Marsa Ronnie Sacco was the main wicket taker with three while Tony Azzopardi took two. Another exciting game took place with the Marsa team needing two runs to win of the last over. First ball was blocked, second ball Ronnie Sacco takes a single. Third ball Andy Naudi (top scorer with forty runs) is run out. Fourth ball Sacco manages a single and the win for the home side. The Marsa team win the series two to one.
Next weekend the Marsa team takes on returning team Brooklands C.C in two games.
