A new publication has been launched by Heritage Malta, documenting one of the most compelling artistic projects of the Malta Biennale 2026: the pavilion created by residents of Corradino Correctional Facility.
The book offers greater insight into the nine deeply personal art pieces exhibited alongside those of established artists during the Biennale earlier this year.
Titled ‘Floating Fragments: Art, Voices and Human Presence Behind the Walls,’ this richly illustrated bilingual publication completes a series which began with the Malta Biennale 2026 official catalogue and was later joined by a volume dedicated to Malta’s pavilion.
This third catalogue describes in full the larger project behind the Malta Biennale thematic pavilion of the same name.
Authored by experts in the sector, including coordinators of the project, its pages talk about people – individuals wrestling with memory, addiction, loss, hope, family, and self-discovery. Through candid interviews, the book reveals how creativity became a language for those who often struggled to find words.
Heritage Malta said a clay heart pierced with nails became a meditation on guilt and the pain inflicted on loved ones. A tree with roots stretching across three countries traced a migrant’s life journey, and suspended crosses and medals of different colours and dimensions invited onlookers to reflect on how everyone has their own cross to bear. Each artwork became a fragment of a larger human experience, offering a rare glimpse into a world few ever see.
The publication can be purchased on its own or as part of a trilogy with the Malta Biennale and Malta Pavilion catalogues, either at MUZA or online here: heritagemalta.mt/store [1]
