Dar tal-Providenza is commemorating the100th anniversary since the birth of its founder, Msgr. Michael Azzopardi, through an exhibition being held in the Exhibition Hall, of the Ministry for Gozo, St Francis Square, Victoria, Gozo.
The Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono inaugurated the exhibition, which was then blessed by Bishop Emeritus Mons. Nikol Cauchi. During the opening ceremony, Minister Debono said that the way that the priest had lived his life is a testament of the faith that he embraces, as well as the strong social sense of dedication through which he carried out his mission . It was a mission that led to the changed thinking and behavior of the Maltese and Gozitan society towards persons with disabilities. Minister Debono added that the work of Monsignor Azzopardi must be contiued so that Dar Providenza can carry on with the same purpose for which it was founded.
Bro. Martin Micallef, Director of Dar tal-Providenza, also spoke to cite the great link that Monsignor Azzopardi had to Gozo. Mons. Michael Azzopardi was looking at the disabled person as a human being who is entitled to enjoy the same fundamental rights enjoyed by every other person in the world. Thus Mons. Azzopardi started working for these people to help them grow in their humanity and participate fully in society. Bro. Martin stressed that there remains a need in both civil society and the Church in Malta to continue to educate people to look more positively towards the disabled.
In this exhibition one can appreciate pictures that shows the life of Monsignor Azzopardi from life to death, his personal effects, statuettes and letters he received.
The Exhibition is the same one that was held in Valletta last February and will be open until Thursday, the 15th of April between Monday and Friday, from 8:30am until 4:30pm.
