The CEO of the Gozo Tourism Association Joe Muscat, recently participated in the Viva Malta discussion programme on NET TV, hosted by Robert Cremona, which focused on Gozo’s future direction and the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
During the discussion, the GTA CEO highlighted the vital role tourism plays in the Gozitan economy, having evolved into one of the island’s strongest economic pillars.
He stressed that continued growth must be accompanied by sustainable development, both in terms of infrastructure and the quality of the tourism product.
Muscat also highlighted the current accommodation trends in Gozo, noting that many traditional houses of character are being sensitively converted into boutique accommodation within village cores, complementing the established farmhouse sector. Meanwhile, much of the apartment development taking place is primarily intended to meet residential demand.
The GTA concluded by saying that it remains committed to advocating for policies that support sustainable tourism growth while preserving the unique character and identity of Gozo.
