Building a more resilient and empowered Gozo – Gozo Business Chamber

Building a more resilient and empowered Gozo - Gozo Business ChamberPresident of the Gozo Business Chamber, Michael Galea, and Vice President, Perit Edward Scerri, participated in the programme VIVA Malta, highlighting two important priorities for Gozo’s sustainable development.

Energy Security: Investing in Storage, Not Just Infrastructure

Michael Galea emphasised that investment in energy infrastructure must go hand in hand with investment in energy storage solutions. He said that, ”for an island such as Gozo, which faces particular vulnerabilities arising from its insularity, energy storage is essential to strengthen resilience, mitigate disruptions in electricity supply and ensure greater continuity for businesses and residents alike.”

Regionality: Decisions Closer to the Communities They Affect

Perit Edward Scerri highlighted the importance of giving regionality a meaningful role in policy development and decision-making. He emphasised that regional priorities should be identified and decisions taken at the regional level, rather than having them determined exclusively at the national level.

He said that ”this approach would enable Gozo to better address its distinct challenges, respond to local needs and shape its own development priorities.”

The Chamber said – ”Two priorities, one common objective: a stronger, more resilient and sustainable Gozo.”

The Gozo Business Chamber concluded by saying that it ”continues to advocate for infrastructure investment that addresses Gozo’s specific vulnerabilities, alongside governance structures that empower the region to determine its own priorities.”
