Two major tenders with a combined value of almost €11 million for the supply and installation of new cables in Gozo, have been issued by Enemalta.
The company said that this marks ”another important step in strengthening the island’s electricity distribution network.”
Enemalta stressed that the investment will allow the creation of a more reliable electricity network, improving the distribution of electricity across Gozo to meet future demand.
The larger tender, valued at approximately €7 million, covers trenching works and the laying of new 33kV underground cables linking the 132kV Distribution Centre with the distribution centres in Xewkija and Qala, as well as the new distribution centre in Kercem.
A second tender, with an estimated value of €4 million, covers the supply and delivery of 33kV underground electricity cables required for the network reinforcement project.
The project involves the supply of new cables and their installation in three phases, covering G?ajnsielem, Xewkija and the Xewkija-Victoria area.
Enemalta said that the work will also incorporate measures to minimise disruption to residents and traffic, control noise and dust, and ensure proper road reinstatement.
Enemalta Executive Chairman Ryan Fava said in a statement that ”Gozo remains a priority in its investment programme and these tenders reflect the importance placed on upgrading the island’s electricity infrastructure as part of its long-term strategy for the Maltese Islands.”
Enemalta said that ”together, the two tenders represent a significant investment in Gozo’s electricity infrastructure, with stronger connections between key distribution centres and supporting a more resilient network.”
The project forms part of Enemalta’s wider programme of investment in the electricity distribution system, aimed at strengthening supply reliability, modernising infrastructure and ensuring the network can respond to the needs of households and businesses, the company said.
