Government confirms lighting to be installed at Xhajma Racetrack in Gozo

Following a Parliamentary Question by Gozitan MP Beppe Galea, the Government has confirmed plans to install lighting at the the Xhajma Racetrack in Gozo

After complaints received from Gozitan residents, sports enthusiasts and people who regularly use the horse racetrack at Xewkija for walking and jogging, Nationalist Party MP Beppe Galea raised the lack of adequate lighting and facilities at the site through a Parliamentary Question.

In response, Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri confirmed that the Ministry has initiated the tendering process for the installation of lighting along the inner section of the track, with works expected to take place during 2027.

Beppe Galea welcomed the announcement as a ”positive development,” while stressing the importance of ensuring that the commitment is delivered without unnecessary delays.

“Several Gozitan residents have approached me about the lack of lighting and adequate facilities at this track. Many use it regularly for walking, jogging and exercise. They deserve a safe and accessible environment, particularly during the evening hours,” he said.

Galea noted that while the Government has confirmed plans to install lighting, further improvements to the track’s facilities should also be considered to better serve the growing number of people using this public space.

He insisted that ”investing in accessible spaces for physical activity is an investment in people’s health and quality of life. These improvements do not necessarily require major projects, but they can make a real difference to people’s everyday lives.”

The Nationalist MP reiterated his commitment to continue following up on the project and ensuring that the promised works are implemented.

Beppe Galea concluded by saying, ”politics starts by listening to people, understanding their concerns and taking action. I will continue raising the issues that matter to Gozitan residents and following them through until we see tangible results.”
