Following the news that the European Commission will take action on the government’s lack of controls on emissions from the Delimara Power Station Alternatttiva Demokratika spokesperson on energy, industry and transport Ralph Cassar said, ‘This news confirms, if any confirmation was needed that government only takes action on environmental and health matters only when forced to by the EU. Despite all the rhetoric by Lawrence Gonzi and the Nationalist Party prior to elections it is crystal clear that environmental and public health issues do not form part of the party’s core beliefs and rhetoric on the subject is only pre-election propaganda."
AD chairperson Michael Briguglio concluded, "AD has brought up the subject of pollution from power stations, traffic and also pollution as the result of overdevelopment time and again. In this respect AD is the only party which is consistent on the environment. AD in parliament would ensure that people’s quality of life is given priority and that Malta would strictly comply with EU directives."
