Alternattiva Demokratika has said that it applauds the Catalan Parliament for voting in favour of a ban on bullfighting in Catalonia as from January 2012.
“Bullfighting is a cruel and barbaric practice which is unacceptable for any civilised society. The Catalan Green Party ICV deserves all the praise for the important role they played in campaigning for this ban,” Simon Galea, spokesperson for Animal Welfare & Agriculture said.
“People are realising that ‘killing for fun’ is barbaric. Holding on to a practise under the guise of tradition is not on, neither in Spain nor in Malta,” Simon Galea added. Touching on another animal welfare related issues Simon Galea concluded by calling on authorities to heed the call made by Floriana Mayor Nigel Holland and animal welfare NGOs to provide shelter for horses working in the harbour area.
