The Ministry for Gozo has said this morning that after tests conducted by the Public Health Authority, it has now been established that the waters of Xlendi bay are now clear of any signs of contamination and therefore have been declared fit for swimming.
These tests were carried out after an incident on Monday evening when a contractor working on the construction of the Xlendi road struck the main sewer system, contaminating Xlendi bay with untreated drainage which had flowed into the inner part of the bay, which then meant that the bay was declared unfit for swimming.
The Ministry for Gozo said that work has also been carried out to clean and disinfected the road down to the inner bay. The procedure established to determine the quality of bathing water was carried out over three days when daily samples to be tested.

If this work was done during winter (which is how the majority of Gozitans and Maltese wanted) it would have not created problems because accidents happen and Xlendi restaurants wouldn’t have the problems that they are having now because a lot of people find it not comfortable to go through Munxar
